YO SOY MAYA SOL
Xicana-Mexica mujer
I am a visionary, an activist, and a changemaker. In a world where I lived in the ‘in-between space’, being told to "check your activism at the door." In many experiences leading up to that moment, it ignited a fire within myself-a fire of transformation, empowerment, and justicia.
As a documented "immigrant," I recognize the privilege of my status, allowing me to engage in advocacy without the constant threat of deportation. I know that preserving myself was an act of political resistance, a defiant stance against oppressive systems.
I inherited a legacy of activism from my family. With roots in Mexico, they instilled in me the wisdom of Cultura Cura. My journey became a reflection of my family's commitment to resistance and change, nurturing the idea that investing in well-being is an act of healing rebellion.
I was held in community with other movement builders, peers, Elders, and mentors who shared a vision for new systems and ways of tending and responding to inequities at every level, Mayamotion Healing is my response.
Mayamotion Healing is your bold path to Healing, Connection, and Justicia
MY APPROACH
As an activist, dancer, educator, cultural-clinical therapist, and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) I am dedicated towards raising awareness, political consciousness and standing in our power with our community. I am dedicated towards increasing culturally grounded and decolonial mental health access in California and Colorado with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking and BIPOC communities. I am proud to have a long history in addressing disparities within the community with an intersectional, intergenerational and inclusion lens for our LGBTQ2S Communities of Color.
I find motivation from working with individuals, couples, families & communities cultivating healing intergenerational trauma, building resilience and crafting joy. My caseload is prioritized for my BIPOC relatives as well as allies willing and ready to do the work of deconstructing their whiteness for collective healing and liberation.
In working together, I strive to stay attuned to you, your experience and also the cultural-social factors that impact your experience. I am direct in my truth-telling while also holding tenderness in the embrace of honesty, consent, autonomy, and encouraging a brave space for growth and transformation.
BIO section:
I am here because of the survival and sacrifices of my parents, abuelos and ancestors. It is with the connection to these roots, examining my identities, power and privilege, and by respecting my family, culture, history, and upbringing that I am able to do my work. To be of services comes with honor, cariño, humility, and responsibility.
With a background in Public Health, both in systems level and direct service work, I have been able to understand the legacy of white supremacy and oppressive models still in practice today and work collectively to address them. I am a graduate from the University of Denver with a Masters in Social Work with Clinical Mental Health & Global Practice and Sustainability concentrations. My Spanglish is intentional and a piece of my resilience, especially in institutional and academic spaces. I am committed to expanding the pipeline for other Clinicians of Color in the field of holistic wellness - by any means necessary.
I am grateful to my mentors, comadres, y compañeras who support my growth and development and inspire me to be brave and balance my activism with self, soul, and community care. I am committed to my healing through canto, baile, danza, cultura and finding time with my family, my love, and my community.
